CoBot Arms - Originally designed as a test platform for mechanical design, electronics, and coding in the development of larger machine tending robots these little guys are also quite fun at a dinner party.
with this project I also designed and fabricated a custom soldering iron tip that allows for wires to be soldered onto Aluminum tape which acts as the capacitive sensors for the robots.
however they are not hardened against crazy electromagnetic interference
And they don't make for the best of snow removal crew, even when teamed up
They do not need a computer for programming and are aware of people around them so that if you get in the way they "play dead" shutting down all the motors so that it does not harm you or you do not harm it. Since they know how they are positioned due to custom modifications I made to stock motors you can position it how you want and tap a metal ring on its base to remember the point. Once you have done this up to something around 700 times the code I wrote with plan a path between each point and play it back for you.
During the prototyping phase to test out the arms section length and if the motors had enough torque I made a quick mock up and taught it to play the xylophone.
I will upload some more videos of them in operation when I have some time to better document the project
